As our Year 5 cohort look to the beginning of their transition to King’s Worcester, last Friday the Year 5 pupils at King’s St Alban’s were delighted to jump on board the minibuses and make the short journey to King’s Hawford, a King’s Foundation Prep School located just outside of Claines, in the glorious Worcestershire countryside.
Upon arrival, the pupils were warmly welcomed by their peers at King’s Hawford ahead of a joint sporting afternoon. As pupils begin to look towards transitioning across to “Big King’s”, this event marks the start of a series of Year 5 transition events based around various sports that will take place at the start of each term.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon during which the children benefitted from cricket and athletics masterclasses delivered by Mr Mason (Director of Foundation Sport), Mrs Miller-Symonds (Director of Sport) and Mr Greenall (Director of Cricket) from the Senior School sports department. The Year 5 children really enjoyed getting to know other teachers from within the Foundation as well as building stronger friendships with the Year 5 pupils from King’s Hawford.
Supporting the event, it was also lovely to see three Year 10 pupils and two Year 12 pupils down at King’s Hawford helping the Senior School sports staff deliver both cricket and athletics coaching sessions.
Commenting on the afternoon, Mr Mason added, “It was fantastic to be able to work with such enthusiastic and talented students. This was also a great opportunity for our senior pupils to pass on the skills they have gained in their time at King’s.”
This was a hugely successful sporting event which we are certain that all involved thoroughly enjoyed; we look forward to seeing the King’s Hawford pupils once again in the not too distant future and building relationships as the cohort transition to “Big King’s” in September 2023!
