U11 York Rugby Tour

U11 Yorkshire Rugby Tour

Last Friday, the U11 rugby team travelled up to Yorkshire for a combined, overnight tour with King’s Hawford. The joint tour was the first of its kind and was developed to ease the transition for the boys as they move up to the Senior School in September. We met at a service station on the way up and the team bonding started immediately and it became clear that we weren’t going to need to force them to have a good time! In our first game against St Olave’s, the B team cruised to a comfortable victory, with Charlie A, Hassan and Ed B all standing out. On the pitch next door, the A team came up against a very physical Olave’s team on a small pitch which did not let us play the expansive game we were hoping to. An attritional game ended with Olave’s winning by one try. After match tea, it was back to the hostel to sort out rooms before heading to tenpin bowling! The boys had a great evening and there was some good bowling on show – Ian particularly impressed the teachers! The next morning, we were up early for some breakfast before heading down to QEGS Wakefield for our second and final game. The B team played impressively again and won by one try whilst the A team lost by one try again, despite a much, much better performance. It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and the boys were an absolute pleasure to look after. I know that Mr Mason is very excited about working with this group as they move through King’s and I am equally as excited to see what they can achieve together. Well done, boys.

Mr Dudley.
