On Saturday the Boat Club travelled to Saul Junction to compete in the annual Wycliffe Small Boats Head races, with 70+ students from Upper Remove to Upper Sixth (Year 10 to Year 13) competing.
The event was a great opportunity to be involved in some racing and put our autumn training into action.
The weather conditions were far better than predicted and the rowers performed superbly well on the waters of the Gloucester – Sharpness Canal.
It was the first away head race for our Upper Remove (Year 10) and they demonstrated great skill and determination in all their races, placing well in the competitive fields.
Our medal-winning crews from the Wycliffe Small Boats Head are listed below:
Gold medals were won by Finn W and Ned M in their Men’s Double Scull and by James S in his J17 Single Scull.
Silver medals were won by Matt D and James S in Men’s Double Scull, Jack B and Ned M in J18 Double Scull, Jack B in J18 Single Scull, Cat L and Alice C in the Women’s Pair and the Girls J18 Coxed Four of Alice C, Cat L, Jess W, Alex B and Eleanor H.
Bronze medals went to Women’s Coxless Four of Jess W, Felicity Q, Issy T and Alex B; Open Men’s Coxed Four of Shri R, Henry H, Ben B and Tom K-D and Charlie W and Matt D in the J18 Single Scull.
It was a terrific event and wonderful to see the King’s pupils representing the school with distinction, against some very tough competition from around the country.
Next weekend some of our Rowers from Upper Remove to Upper Sixth will be competing in the British Rowing Indoor Championships in London. We wish the rowers competing in this event the best of luck!
