Year 1 Set Sail on a Division Adventure!

This week, Year 1 took their first exciting steps into the world of division during their maths lessons. Linking brilliantly with their topic, Adventures of the Sea, the children discovered how pirates used to divide their loot fairly among the crew, thanks to the Quartermaster’s careful calculations!

Inspired by this seafaring context, pupils became Quartermasters themselves, tackling division problems by sharing out “pirate treasure” equally among groups of pirates. Using practical resources, they explored the concept of equal groups, working with enthusiasm, focus, and accuracy.

It was wonderful to see their problem-solving skills grow as they made connections between maths and their pirate-themed learning. Well done, Year 1, true treasure sharers of the high seas!
