Year 1 had a fantastic day on Friday when they went on their first school trip of the year to West Midland Safari Park. This was the perfect location for the children to consolidate their learning from the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and ‘Adventures by the Sea’ topics they had so much enjoyed this year.
The children loved seeing the different animals during the safari drive through. Particular favourites were the lions, African wild dogs and elephants as well as seeing the new baby rhino run around the paddock. The children thought it was fantastic to see the giraffes so close up as Mrs Chatterton fed them through the minibus window.
After lunch we walked around the park and the children braved the bat and creepy crawly encounters in the Twilight Caves. They enjoyed seeing all of the different animals that made their homes in the aquariums as well as some huge anacondas in the Reptile House. The children were thrilled to feed the very hungry goats and see the meerkats in the African Village and they had fun spotting the lemurs high up in the treetops as we walked through the Lemur Trail. Finally, before heading home, we braved the Land of the Living Dinosaurs!
The children behaved beautifully throughout and were so enthusiastic about all they saw. Well done, Year 1!
