Year 3 Explore Forest School for Writing Inspiration
Year 3 ventured into Forest School this week as part of their English lessons, where they immersed themselves in nature to gather ideas and inspiration for their writing. Using Aaron Becker’s captivating book Journey as a stimulus, the children focused on building their descriptive skills by creating a rich word bank of nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
During their time in Forest School, the children observed their surroundings closely, drawing on the sights, sounds, and textures of the forest to expand their vocabulary. This creative approach allowed them to connect with nature while laying the groundwork for their forest descriptions.

Year 3 explore forest school for English
In the following lesson, the children used their newly created word banks to craft their own vivid and imaginative descriptions of the forest. Their hard work and creativity shone through, resulting in some truly brilliant writing. Several children were awarded HMAs and Merits for their outstanding efforts, reflecting the high standard of work produced.
This enriching experience not only developed the children’s writing skills but also highlighted the value of using real-world exploration to enhance learning. Year 3 should be proud of their achievements and the beautiful pieces of descriptive writing they created!
