Y6 culinary skills put to the test.

La Fabrication du pain – c’est bon! Year 6 had sticky fingers this week as they put their culinary skills to the test!

Following a simple French bread recipe they collaborated in pairs to weigh and measure flour, yeast, salt and water. Wearing a traditional chef’s chapeau, the children enjoyed kneading the dough whilst singing Frère Jacques and French echo chants. The rhythmic dough pulses allowed the children to demonstrate their baking talents and after 20 mins of energetic kneading the first dough challenge commenced; snails, cats, dogs and even a crocodile were formed. After a further 5 minutes of kneading, the second dough shape challenge was launched; several bananas appeared along with some carefully formed cherries and an impressive pineapple!

Once the children had made a final dough shaped creation and prepared it to take home for baking, it was time for the washing up! An enjoyable element of team work that was embraced by all as part of the fun.
