King's Hawford

5 November

Year 6 sporting action

It was great to see our Year 6 pupils back in sporting action. On Monday our U11 Rugby and Hockey teams travelled the short distance to the “Big Kings” sports fields. Here they enjoyed a triangular fixture with sister school King’s St Alban’s and Hymers College Junior School. After the two week half term all of our team members were keen to return to the sports pitches.

Boys’ Rugby

The Under 11 rugby squads visited Slingpool Walk on Monday 1st November to take on King’s St Albans and the touring Hymers College Junior School, led by former King’s Hawford Head of Boys Game Mr Hodsdon.

Having not played together for a fortnight the boys took a few minutes to get into their stride but were soon playing some of the exciting handling rugby that they were playing before the half term break. Most pleasing was the improvement in the defensive work of all the boys, defensive structures were in place and the tackling was fierce and committed. The games were watched by a number of senior school staff who are excited by the prospect of the boys joining them in 2022. This was the ideal preparation for the Harrison Cup at QEGS Wakefield, which will see the Hawford boys challenge themselves against the strongest Prep Schools in the North of England.

Girls’ Netball

Our U11 Girls’ enjoyed their first netball fixtures of the academic year on Monday when they played against King’s St Alban’s and Hymers College Junior School. The girls put on a strong performance in all of the games and demonstrated great team spirit.
