King’s Community Comes Together for Worcester City Runs

Last Sunday saw the annual Worcester City Runs event take place, with a fantastic turnout from King’s pupils, staff and OVs.

Over 25 people from across the Foundation took part in either the Junior 1 mile or 3km races, or the 10km and half marathon events. The morning saw an impressive display of determination from our runners, with many also raising money for worthy causes. Our community spirit shone through as countless King’s families lined the streets in a heart warming show of support.

Upper Sixth student, Toby A, raised over £700 for charity Ups and Downs, which supports families of children with Down’s Syndrome. Toby also gives up his spare time to play with a local youngster who has Down’s Syndrome, whose dad commented: “Toby gives up his time on a Sunday to play with and help support my son who has Down’s Syndrome. He raised an extraordinary £700+ in just over a week of fundraising. He is a brilliant young man!”

Amelia B ran in both the Junior 3K and the 10K, raising an incredible £500 for Macmillan.

Fiona Cook, who works in Kings’ team of support staff, ran in the half marathon – her first for 30 years – and achieved an incredible personal best time of 1 h 57 m.

After completing the 10k race, Ed Houghton, who teaches French and Spanish, commented: “I’m absolutely exhausted but really enjoyed being cheered on by lots of King’s pupils and colleagues.” Fellow language teacher, Diana Drew, ran the 10k along with six members of her family – three of whom are OVs.

King’s Hawford’s Director of Music and Performance, Sophie Hughes, said: “I did my first Worcester City half marathon and got a PB. It was an amazing atmosphere and a very exhilarating run!”

It was wonderful to see King’s represented across the age groups and abilities, in a true reflection of our commitment to making sport fun and rewarding for all pupils. Everyone crossed the finish line with a huge smile on their face and an incredible sense of pride, although some did admit to having slightly sore legs the next day!

Congratulations to everyone on your incredible achievement!
