Pupils in the King’s Foundation can opt for additional tuition with one of our peripatetic Speech & Stagecraft team tutors.
Lessons are available in termly blocks of ten weekly half-hour sessions. Pupils follow an individualised programme, developing core performance/presentational skills. Work builds to graded examination and a range of options for assessment are available to suit the needs of individual pupils.
The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art – LAMDA – offers regulated qualifications in various disciplines, including Acting, Musical Theatre, Speaking Verse and Prose, and Speaking in Public. King’s has a fine tradition as a Centre for LAMDA exams. For more than a decade, a 100% pass rate has been maintained, with results at Merit or Distinction levels exceeding 90%.
Trinity College, London, offers a similarly attractive range of qualifications, including Communication Skills, Performance Arts, and Speech and Drama. King’s is a Trinity Champion Centre for its Arts Award offering and has an excellent working relationship with the College.
The Speech and Stagecraft team is committed to providing a stimulating learning experience. Lessons for younger pupils take place on a rotational basis to minimise disruption to timetabled learning. Pupils in the Fifth Form and above receive their tuition outside their timetable – before or after school, during break times or during Sixth Form study periods. All pupils are encouraged to take personal ownership of their co-curricular activity as they develop lifelong interpretative, technical and presentational skills.
In addition to work building towards the examination, pupils are also given the opportunity to perform publicly in the annual Worcester Competitive Arts Festival and in King’s own showcase opportunities. Many of these showcases are student-led events, spotlighting not just the talent of King’s pupils but the pride they have in these skills.
Pupils engage with speech and stagecraft lessons for a number of personal reasons. Some wish to further their passions for performance arts in general; others are seeking to enhance and refine skills required for their GCSE and A Level studies. Some have clear qualifications and career goals in mind; others seize the opportunity to develop their confidence and communication skills. Whatever their goals, there is something for all pupils.
