The King’s School becomes fully co-educational.
The first cohort of 11+ girls arrived in September 1991 and quickly integrated into the life of the school. The relatively small number grew year by year throughout the 1990s, with further girls joining at 13+ from 199s, until the proportions of girls and boys in each year group were roughly similar. The Games department had been divided into Boys’ Games and Girls’ Games in 1984 with Nicky Anstey appointed to champion the girls’ sports at King’s. Girls’ sports (netball, hockey, tennis and rounders) thrived, with particular success in girls’ rowing crews.
