Three Peaks Fundraising Success.
Earlier this year, two Prep School pupils from King’s Hawford and King’s St Alban’s came up with the remarkable plan to conquer the Three Peaks Challenge, raising money for charity. Considered to be one of Britain’s toughest outdoor challenges, The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the scenic heights of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. This is a tall feat whatever your age, but for a pair of tenacious six year olds this challenge was massive. Filled with determination and ambition, the girls put their plan into action.
Tiegan and Ffion kicked off their Three Peaks challenge on 26th August, having driven to Scotland the previous day. Over the course of three days, the girls covered an impressive ascent of 3,064 meters, 37km of walking, and 462 driving miles, all to raise money for the charity Project Gambia.
Project Gambia has, since 2007, established a range of projects in schools, villages, and farms, providing education, support, and funding to enable people to find a sustainable solution to poverty. The King’s Worcester Foundation is one of the 30 local schools and community groups who support the work of Project Gambia.
Bev Hodt from Project Gambia added, “We are so proud of the girls; an amazing achievement and such an inspiration to others. We are planning to use the money they have raised to build a classroom at St Peter’s Nursery, a very poor school located in the Lamin area of The Gambia. At the moment there are children who cannot attend school because the school does not have enough room. (There are already over 50 children in each classroom). Building another classroom will mean that these children will get the chance to have an education. The girls should be so proud of themselves as their achievements will make a huge difference to children’s lives in The Gambia. I am looking forward to meeting up with both of them in the next few weeks. A huge thank you girls and to everyone who supported them.”
By 30th August the girls had not only completed their challenge but they had also managed to smash their fundraising target of £4,000. Both girls are an inspiration and truly embody the King’s Worcester’s values of ambition, resilience, humility, creativity and kindness. Well done girls!
