Cathedral service unites King’s Foundation

The entire King’s Foundation gathered together in Worcester Cathedral this morning for our Service for Eastertide. Over 1100 pupils, from Year 3 to Upper Sixth, and over 100 staff filled the awe-inspiring surroundings of the Cathedral to capacity for this joyous occasion to mark the beginning of the summer term, the first time that such a service has been possible for some time. Mr Gareth Doodes, the Foundation Head, spoke in his address of the importance of the children striving to become the best version of themselves. He reminded us of the importance of our key aspirations for all King’s pupils: to be curious, caring and confident. He illustrated these values in action, seen in the Senior School Monitors during their recent formal farewell outing to Cote, a restaurant in town. The Senior School Wind Band followed this with a powerful and accessible piece, A Legacy by James Swearingen, which was a great way to inspire our junior musicians. The whole event began and ended with some lusty singing of two great hymns, The Day of Resurrection and Thine be the Glory to mark the post-Easter season and the Wind Band brought the Service to a close with a rousing performance of Walton’s Crown Imperial, whetting our appetites for the Coronation celebrations next weekend.
