Dreaming of a Spectacular “White Christmas!”
After a recent run of more edgy and contemporary productions, the KSW Drama and Music Departments are offering up a slice of good old-fashioned nostalgia next week when “White Christmas” takes to the stage of the John Moore Theatre. Oozing with Hollywood glitz and glamour and Irving Berlin’s toe-tapping tunes, it’s the perfect feel-good production to take us all into the festive season.
It’s 1954, and a chance encounter between Broadway stars, Bob Wallace and Phil Davies, and up-and-coming sister act, Betty and Judy Haynes, brings the men face to face with their old wartime commander, Henry Waverley. Time has been kinder to them than to their heroic general. Can they find a way to restore his fortunes? There’s plenty of singing and dancing, a little romance and a lot of soul-searching in their quest to engineer the perfect Christmas.
Our phenomenal young leads – Tigo M, Henry F, Sophia B and Bella C – are fearlessly embracing their iconic roles. On stepping up to the role of Bob, so memorably played by the great Bing Crosby, Tigo says, “It’s a bit nerve-wracking but it has been great fun in the rehearsal process. I’m just really looking forward to next week – that’s always the most exciting part of the whole process. In front of the audience – that’s what it’s all for!”
Tigo and co-stars will be flanked by a superb supporting cast in Eric D, Amelia W and Liv O. For Year 13 Eric, playing General Waverley will be his final role here at King’s. Eric has this to say: “I have thoroughly enjoyed every production here at King’s, from my year 7 production of Little Shop of Horrors to this year’s White Christmas. It has been great fun portraying the general with his firm yet fair personality and I cannot wait to show off all the hard work that’s been put into this and perform in front of an audience. I’ve been able to create a real connection with people from every year group. I will miss the productions greatly when I leave, but the memories I’ve made will last forever!”
Surrounding our principals is a wonderfully talented ensemble. They have really taken to the big bold chorus numbers that are the hallmark of that golden age of Hollywood musicals, and rehearsals have been brim-full of jazz hands, time steps and, most importantly, laughter! Add in a classy show band and sparkling set and costumes and we’re ready for curtain up!
Moreover, we are delighted to announce that a Talent Rep from the National School Theatre Awards will be in the audience next week to review this award-nominated production!
So, as we head into December, if you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones you used to know, you know where to come! “White Christmas” runs from Wednesday 4th to Friday 6th December (at 7pm) with tickets still available here.
