‘Everybody Cut Footloose’ – Excitement Builds Ahead of Opening Night
We are now less than a week away from the opening night of the Senior Musical, Footloose.
Over the past three months, our wonderful cast, crew, and band have dedicated their time and energy to bring this vibrant production to life. Pupils from the Lower Remove to the Upper Sixth have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into the process and developed their skills in acting, singing, and dancing. They are an incredibly talented group, and we can’t wait to see all their efforts come together in show week.
Footloose adds a bit of musical magic to the beloved 1984 film. Set in the small town of Bomont, the show explores the teenage experience of 1980s America. When Ren McCormack makes the shocking discovery that the town’s minister has outlawed all dancing, he attempts to overturn the rule and help everyone, including the Reverend’s daughter, Ariel, face the tragedy that has shaped the town. Including some well-known hits such as Holding Out for a Hero and Let’s Hear It for the Boy, this musical encourages its audience to laugh, cry, and grab their dancing shoes!
Elijah B (U6) – Ren: “Footloose is my first production and I’ve really enjoyed being a part of it. The cast are super talented and have worked really hard, dedicating so much of their time to rehearsals. Being the lead came with its challenges, but with the support of my cast mates I’ve had a whale of a time”
Rosie B (FF) – Ariel: “I’ve loved being in Footloose because the cast is like one big family, and we have so much fun every week. Being a lead has been such an amazing experience, and everyone has been so supportive. I can’t wait for show week, as we get to see all our efforts come together onstage.”
Eric D (L6) – Reverend: “I’ve really enjoyed my time doing Footloose. It was great working with such a diverse cast of actors, and my singing has really improved thanks to the help of Mr. Taranczuk. I have no doubt that show week will be extraordinary.”
Matilda E (LR) – Cowgirl/Ensemble: “Rehearsing with everyone has just been the best and I’ve enjoyed working with all the different year groups. I’ve especially enjoyed getting to do the show alongside netball, as it has been a great way to learn new skills such as dancing.”
Zach E (U6) – Deputy Stage Manager: “Working on the technical side of the show has been great fun and has provided me with lots of new opportunities. I’ve done tech crew since the Lower Fourth (Y7) and I’m so excited to take on the role of Deputy Stage Manager in my final production.”
Footloose will be running from the 6th to the 8th of December in the John Moore Theatre. Tickets are on sale and can be found at www.ticketsource.co.uk/ksw. Please note, there is an advisory age limit of 13+ due to the inclusion of swear words and occasional adult themes.
