King’s Day 2023
As is the tradition here at King’s Worcester, we celebrated the end of the 22/23 academic year with King’s Day – a special summer day, where we not only mark the end of term but more importantly bid farewell to our departing Upper Sixth and celebrate their achievements during their time here.
The King’s Day service combines the previous prize-giving service and cathedral service into one Service. This allows us to focus on the Upper Sixth leavers within the context of a service which looked back across the year gone by and looks ahead to the future.
This year we were delighted to have pupils from the whole Senior School attend the King’s Day service, after a hiatus due to the Pandemic and last year’s storm damage to Worcester Cathedral. This is a wonderful occasion for younger pupils to join in the celebrations, to celebrate the admirable achievements of those students whose footsteps they are set to follow.
As has become tradition over the past few years, following the service, Students passed through the doors of College Hall for one final time, where they were met by applauding staff and parents, and the sounds of the glorious Worcester Cathedral bells ringing in their honour.
The leavers and their families were then treated to a lunch in the school gardens which had been beautifully and lovingly decorated by Heads of House and Upper Sixth Form Tutors.
There were many photo opportunities to be had, including a photo booth set up in the Boat House.
The afternoon played host to our much-valued and well-loved King’s Days events. There was the outstanding A Level art exhibition in the Sir Terry Frost Art Gallery, the annual 1st and 2nd Cricket team vs OV teams down on the playing fields and The KSW Boat Club Regatta on the River Severn. Seeing so many OVs return to school to participate in these sporting events and so many parents, pupils and OVs spectating was lovely. These events are a true testament to the King’s family, and showcase the strength of the OV Community that our Upper Sixth leavers are now a part of.
We wish each and every one of our 2023 Leavers all the best for the next chapter of their journey and we look forward to them forever being part of the King’s community.
