King’s Pupils Elated to Meet Queen Camilla in Royal Maundy Service.

Maundy Thursday was a momentous day for King’s pupils as our School Monitors and Choristers served the wider community at the Royal Maundy Service in Worcester Cathedral.

Our Monitors acted as stewards, welcoming guests outside the Cathedral and guiding them to their places inside. As they did so, they relished the opportunity to speak with the Maundy recipients and learn all about their fascinating stories.

Our wonderful choristers collaborated with the Cathedral Choir to sing throughout the service, and Suzie H, a pupil at King’s St Alban’s, took centre stage; her duties included processing behind Her Majesty, Queen Camilla during the distribution of the Maundy Money. Ceremonial coins were presented to 75 men and 75 women from around the country, including 39 people from our own county Worcestershire and Dudley. The gift is presented in recognition of their exemplary Christian service to church and community over many years.

After the service, Jasmine and George, our Heads of School, and the Headmaster, Gareth Doodes, were all introduced in person to the Queen. Her Majesty also greeted all the Monitors with cheery good wishes. Additionally, many of our younger pupils enjoyed the chance to meet Queen Camilla outside the service.

Monitor Aizah H added, “It was a tremendous honour to represent the School in this once in a lifetime opportunity, and a truly unforgettable experience. Her Majesty even made me laugh, when she asked me if I was in charge of keeping everyone in check before the service!”

What a truly wonderful occasion this was for everyone involved; it is a moment in our School’s history that many will remember for the rest of their lives.
