King’s Rowers Represent the West Midlands at Junior Inter-Regional Regatta
On Saturday 22nd April, eleven Fifth Form pupils travelled to The National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham to represent the West Midlands and King’s at the annual Junior Inter-Regional Regatta.
This event draws junior rowers from the twelve rowing regions across the country. The Girls’ Pair of Amelia V and Rebecca N comfortably qualified through to the A-Final from their early heat in second place. They started their final at a blistering pace, sending a shockwave through the rest of the field and setting up an incredible battle with the girls from Thames Upriver. The girls swept across the line just behind the Thames crew but well ahead of their East Midlands rivals, who had beaten them in the heat. It was a fantastic race, with the girls winning silver medals in fine fashion.
The Boys’ Coxed Four of Tom W, Harry W, Ptolemy N, Ben M and Joseph Y drew the faster heat, rowing well to advance to the A-Final. The boys rowed a great race and took fifth place amongst the strong opposition.
The Boys’ Quad Scull of Josh L, Jude A, Jack D and Elliott B were perhaps a little unfortunate to be drawn in the slower of two heats; they came across the line in second place by only a second to miss the A-final by that margin. Determined to demonstrate their ability in the B-Final, they quickly moved out to a comfortable lead and dominated the race, winning by a good margin.
