Lower Sixth Leaders Prepare for Prefect Roles

Lower Sixth students are preparing to take on their new responsibilities as House and School Prefects after completing a leadership training afternoon designed to build confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

Bringing together pupils from across the year group, the session involved a series of team-building challenges that encouraged students to plan strategically, collaborate effectively and motivate one another. As they worked through each activity, students were challenged to listen to different perspectives and think carefully about how strong leadership and teamwork can help achieve the best outcomes.Afterwards, the new prefects reflected on the strengths and weaknesses within their teams and considered how the lessons learned could be applied in real-life situations.

The afternoon provided a valuable introduction to their new roles, and we look forward to seeing them thrive when they begin their prefect duties in September.

“This afternoon, I took part in a leadership event with other school prefects where we completed a variety of team challenges that required quick thinking, planning, and effective collaboration. Throughout the activities, I focused on suggesting ideas to help overcome challenges rather than taking control, while also listening carefully to the contributions of others. I motivated the group and maintained a positive attitude to create a supportive environment for my team.”

“During the course of the afternoon, the house and school prefects completed many activities to improve our team building and leadership skills. House prefects were in groups of eight with their corresponding house prefect and three other pairs. This gave us all the opportunity to interact with the prefects of a variety of other houses which is very important for running a cohesive house system in the next year.”

“Each activity was graded out of five in skills such as communication, planning and motivation to help us reflect on and develop our perseverance and collaboration. As well as developing vital skills for our roles as house prefects, I personally found the event to be fun and engaging and I learnt many areas that I am stronger and weaker in that I can improve on and apply to future experiences.”
