Mixed Netball Kick Starts at King’s

Miss McKenzie, Director of Netball has launched mixed netball for Sixth Form every Tuesday lunchtime. There has been a real buzz and sense of excitement in the sports hall and on the side-line during this new club.

Mixed netball is open to all girls and boys who can put forward a team of 4 girls and 3 boys. The Lower and Upper Sixth teams play matches against one another, 5 minutes each way. Matches have been competitive and full of excitement from both the girls and the boys.

Gameplay has been fast and everyone involved puts in their all, with the boys learning skills and tactics and picking up the rules as they go.

Thanks to the popularity of the Sixth Form sessions, Fifth Form sessions are being introduced so even more of our pupils will soon have an opportunity to play.

Future plans for mixed netball also include the opportunity for boys to join after school netball clubs with the intention to put out a mixed netball team and play other schools. Miss McKenzie is very keen to push this new programme, giving boys the chance to get involved in netball training and match play. It has been great to see boys get involved and have the opportunity to learn a new sport. Although their knowledge of the rules is not so in-depth, their skills, strength and power have allowed a fast-paced game; making it a tough competition. Playing alongside the girls also helps them to build their knowledge of the rules.

This has been a great success so far and we very much look forward to seeing the progression of mixed netball in the future.
