Rowers Prepare for Regatta Season at Easter Training Camps
Rowers from King’s enjoyed training camps over the Easter break, providing a valuable opportunity to practice skills and techniques ahead of what looks set to be a busy and exciting season.
Senior Rowing Camp – Amposta, Spain
Fifty members of the Boat Club from Fifth and Sixth Form travelled to Amposta in Spain for our annual Easter Rowing Camp. The rowers had an early start and flew into Barcelona completing the journey by coach. We were hosted by local club, Club Nàutic Amposta and rowed on the River Ebro, staying in a nearby hotel.
We were greeted by blustery conditions, but the venue soon revealed its beauty and tremendous rowing facilities. Rowers undertook up to three session a day on the river, soon clocking up training miles.
The days were easily filled with revision, eating, a little sightseeing and sleep. The final day gave us the opportunity to put all the hard work into practise for our upcoming regatta season, with a camp regatta over 2000 metres. The results were excellent and the coaches and crews are very excited about the events over the coming weeks.
Junior Rowing camp – King’s Rochester, Kent
Forty-six Remove pupils attended the Junior Rowing Camp held at The King’s School Rochester, Kent. They were accommodated at the school’s boarding houses and rowed out of the boathouse in Allington on the River Medway.
The camp provided an excellent opportunity to reinforce technical developments and spend time working as units. The venue also enabled use of other facilities at the school including the fields and the pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with great hosts and splendid food.
The junior members of the club also look towards the regatta season, with many of them about to encounter their first races, on the water.
