New Cinderella Sports Site for King’s Worcester

King’s Worcester is delighted to announce that Worcester City Council has approved the School’s application to sublease the city’s historic Cinderella Ground site, off Bransford Road and opposite the Worcester Golf and Country Club.

This exciting new agreement, which will see the School take control of the ground, will provide access for pupils from across the King’s Foundation to extended sports facilities all year round. The two prep schools, King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford, and the Senior School and Sixth Form will all benefit from this enhanced provision.

In addition, as well as playing host to a variety of summer holiday camps and tournaments, the grounds will also continue to be available for community use, with local schools and other groups enjoying opportunities for rugby, football and cricket.

Headmaster, Gareth Doodes added, “We are delighted that the council has approved our application and we look forward to finalizing agreements to ensure that the ground is ready for use in good time for the new cricket season. The addition of this facility is central to our Foundation Strategic Plan, with community and outreach as one of the core pillars of our strategic growth. Our dedicated Estates Teams are very much looking forward to bringing the site back to its former glory while enhancing the facilities to be much more than fit for purpose for years to come.”

The Cinderella Ground will offer King’s additional acreage to their already generous 46-acre sports field site on New Road, adjacent to the Worcester County Cricket Club, as well as the 23 acres at King’s Hawford, the Prep School in the north of the city.

This recent announcement is another example of the School’s investment in developing campuses and facilities and sits very well alongside the Phase One launch of the new Sixth Form Centre in September 2023.
