The Summer Open Mic Night was thrown into a little bit of Chaos when then the Lower Sixth were sent home to isolate at the last minute. Thankfully with a 24-hour postponement and a lot of editing work from Mr Taranczuk the show was able to go ahead.
Jamie K (L6 ,Cl) & Tom K-D (L6, Os), who both performed in the show, have written the below review of the event:
This term’s Open Mic night, we’re glad to say, was a successful one. It didn’t go ahead without its fair share of changes in plans, however. We had planned to record all of the performances in the theatre, but, once all of the L6 pupils began working from home, realised this wasn’t going to be fully possible. In the end, after a lot of emails and some great perseverance from everyone involved, we managed to create an event that went smoothly. All the performers from the L6 recorded their parts from home, and Mr Taranczuk painstakingly edited the performances together to create an evening full of great performances.
This is hopefully the last Open Mic that we will have to do virtually, and we’re sure both regular audience members and all the performers are looking forward to getting back into the Boat House with the amazing atmosphere that is always present at these events. Many thanks to Mr T for editing the whole event together and supporting us through the organising of the event, Mr Haynes for helping with the recording that could be done in school, and all the performers who persevered and were happy to record their parts either in school or at home.
A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in such a fantastic show, the level of talent on show was incredible from all King’s pupils and the resilience shown by everyone continues to be remarkable.
A special thank you also to Mr Taranczuk for all the work he has put into, not only the Summer Open Mic Night but also all his work with the virtual concerts, performances and events throughout the 2020/2021 Academic year. He and the Music Department have ensured that Music at King’s has continued to flourish throughout this challenging school year.
We hope to be welcoming live performances and Parents back to King’s in the Autumn Term. In the meantime, you can enjoy the Summer Open Mic Night here.
