OV Clara’s Charity Shave
Inspirational news from OV Clara Watson (Os 13-20) who has undertaken a sponsored head shave in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK and smashing her £500 fundraising target in the process. In addition to her fundraising, Clara donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for cancer and alopecia patients.
Explaining why she had chosen to do this, Clara said, “My time in med school has given me experience of how difficult a disease pancreatic cancer is. Despite being the 10th most common cancer in the UK, it has the worst survival rate of all cancers due to it being recognised late, at a point when treatment will be less effective. In short, pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research.
“Pancreatic Cancer UK funds research, patient and family support, and information around the condition and I wanted to do what I could to help.”
On 27 July, Clara was up early to speak with BBC Hereford and Worcestershire on their breakfast radio show before ‘braving the shave’!
Congratulations Clara on an incredible achievement and a great new haircut!
