OV’s Fabulous Football Award
Congratulations to OV Josh Moorhouse (Br 12-19) who has won a national award to be named the Pitching In Volunteer of the Season for his outstanding efforts as a volunteer at his local club, Malvern Town Football Club. Josh was nominated for the award by OV Toby Platt (K 12-19), who similarly volunteers at Malvern.
Pitching In, which is an initiative of Entain to support grassroots sport, launched the award to celebrate the thousands of volunteers across the country who dedicate their time to supporting grassroots and non-elite football.
The prize saw Josh travel to Dublin for the UEFA Europa League final, with flights, two nights’ accommodation, a training session with footballers Robert Pires and Diego Forlan, and the opportunity to play on the Dublin Stadium pitch. OV Ali Robb (K 12-19 and Old St Alban’s) joined Josh for the trip.
Commenting on the award, Josh said, “To be recognised with this prize is amazing and pretty humbling. It’s an absolutely brilliant opportunity and a once in a lifetime football opportunity.”
Josh only started volunteering at the club last summer, with the hope of assisting on the financial side of the club to help advance his accountancy career. His remit has widened as the season has progressed, even filling in for the club kitman on occasions.
Josh added, “If people have a local club and there is an opportunity to get involved, I would definitely encourage them to do it, you never know where it’s going to take you.”
