A Dramatic Visit for OV Hollie
Hot on the heels of her Five Year Reunion, OV Hollie Avery (S 12-19) stayed locally to return to King’s to help judge the House Drama Competition on Monday 8 October 2024.
Following her degree in German and English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, Hollie is about to graduate with a distinction in her Masters in Musical Theatre from LAMDA, although already has a string of writing, directing, and acting credits to her name – not least the many productions in which she was involved while at King’s!
The House Drama Competition had been resurrected after a hiatus and this year comprised two categories: Solo Drama and Musical Theatre. Hollie kindly agreed to be a guest judge for both, and was impressed with the level of talent meaning some careful deliberation was required to fulfil her adjudication duties.
In a break from judging, Hollie spent some time with L6 pupils Bella C and Esther G who were seeking advice and guidance on their Drama A-level devising piece, as well as potential future career opportunities. Hollie and Head of Drama, Shara Parry (Hon OV), had some fantastic words of wisdom to share, helping to inspire the students, along with some wonderful reminiscing of Hollie’s own time studying Drama A-level with Mrs Parry!
Shara added, “Hollie was a real force of nature as a King’s student – academically curious, always contributing to school life, and exceptionally talented as an actress and singer. It’s no surprise she was taking the Edinburgh Arts Circuit by storm whilst she was doing her degree! I can’t wait to see her career develop post-Masters. It’s so important for our creative pupils to meet positive role models, like Hollie, who talk with so much passion about their craft and dispel the myths that careers in The Arts are unattainable! It was wonderful to have her back in the department!”
Thank you, Hollie, for your time and support!
