A New Year OV vs KSW Football Match
Many thanks to King’s Sports Coach, Andy Holliday, for this great match report from the latest OV vs King’s Football match:
“The annual curtain raiser to the School’s football term took place between the Old Vigornians and the current King’s 1st and 2nd XI on 2nd January at the County FA Headquarters. The OVs fielded a very youthful squad, looking to gain revenge for a heavy defeat at the start of the school year.
“The King’s team got off to a quick start and opened the scoring with a good finish by Turner on the fourth minute mark. However, before the game reached the 10th minute, the OVs were level with a goal from Todd Pinner (Os 18-24). King’s continued to push forward and created a few chances before Cunningham broke through the OVs’ defence to put King’s back in front with a finish in the bottom corner of the net. This seemed to spark the OV team into life and in the space of fourteen minutes they scored three goals through George Campbell-Ferguson (Cr 17-24), David Wills (Br 16-23) and a second goal through the rejuvenated Pinner. The OVs lead was maintained until the half time break, with a two goal lead at 4-2.
“The second half opened up with the King’s School very much on the front foot and created a number of chances before King’s pulled a goal back from a corner with a second for Cunningham. This again spurred on the OVs and in space of 18 second half minutes wrapped up the victory. Goals from Campbell-Ferguson again, Charlie Halford (Cr 17-24), Alex Moule (Cr 16-23) and what it is believed to be the previous defender Pinner’s first ever hat-trick rounded off the scoring for the OVs. Despite the King’s School scoring again through Clason, it couldn’t impact the result, with the OVs deservedly triumphant 8-4 in this very entertaining match.
“Many thanks to Mr Hooman (King’s St Alban’s) for stepping in to manage the OVs and the Kings School staff for arranging the venue and officials for the game.”
