Congratulations to Hon OV Capt Grinnell
Many congratulations to Hon OV Captain Dave Grinnell, who has been awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service Award for his services to the King’s School’s CCF Contingent.
Dave joined King’s as the School Staff Instructor (SSI) for the CCF in 2004. Prior to his time at King’s, Dave spent twelve years in the Army as both a Physical Education and an Adventure Training Instructor, as well as working in both independent and state schools, all of which was great preparation for King’s!
Commenting on the award, King’s CCF Contingent Commander, Lt Col Stuart Ellen, said, “Dave has been a key member of the CCF team at King’s for many years, providing continuity for staff and cadets and being at the forefront of training delivery. He always goes ‘above and beyond’ for the cadets and the staff, and we are all extremely pleased that he is has been recognised for his tireless work. Congratulations!”
Director of Foundation Communications, Andrew Maund (Hon OV), a long-serving member of the CCF alongside Captain Grinnell, added,
“We are all delighted to hear that Dave has received this honour. On a personal level, Dave and I have been brothers-in-arms since my early days in the CCF in the 1980s, when I worked with him as one of the Regular Army Cadet Training Team who visit schools regularly to support the training of the CCF.
“Dave’s commitment to the cadets and his desire to provide the very best training for them shone out of him from our very first meeting, and I knew he would make a great SSI when he left the Army, so I was very pleased to be able to recruit him to join the staff, first at another independent school and subsequently at King’s.
“We’ve certainly been through many adventures together, and I’ve never met anyone who can raise the spirits of a squad of exhausted and dispirited cadets as well as Dave can. He is always wonderful company, particularly on exercise, has worked tirelessly to develop the training of the CCF, and thoroughly deserves this prestigious award.”
Saving the last word for the award recipient himself, Dave concluded, “I am honoured to receive this accolade.”
Congratulations Captain Grinnell!
