Foundation Pupils Come Together for Orchestral Workshop
Pupils from all three schools in the King’s Foundation came together for a day of music-making and friendship at the annual Orchestral Workshop, held at the Senior School on Tuesday.
Sixty-eight pupils from Years 4 to 9 took part in the event, which challenged them to learn a range of music entirely from scratch in just one day.
Throughout the workshop, pupils worked in a variety of ensembles, including Full Orchestra, Workshop Brass, Wind Band and String Orchestra. The repertoire spanned an impressive five centuries, from 16th-century works to music of the 21st century, giving pupils the opportunity to explore different styles while developing ensemble skills and confidence.
Seven soloists, representing all three schools – four from Lower Remove and three from Year 6 – delivered outstanding performances. They were superbly accompanied by Rory W (Lower Remove), who also took to the spotlight as a soloist himself.
The day concluded with an informal concert bringing all the groups together to showcase what they had achieved. Families enjoyed the afternoon performance, creating a wonderful warm and supportive atmosphere in the JMT. Performances included The Traitors theme, performed by the Workshop Brass group, and Marching Through Mud, by the Workshop Orchestra.
Congratulations to all the pupils who brought boundless enthusiasm and hard work throughout the day and thank you to the staff involved in the workshop; Mr Gunter, Mrs Kilbey (KSA) and Mrs Hughes (KH), whose guidance helped make the day such a success.
