Worcester Cathedral Launches Appeal in Memory of Canon John Paul

Worcester Cathedral has announced the appeal in memory of Canon John Paul, who contributed greatly to the King’s Worcester community.

The John Paul Hoskins Choral Scholar Appeal will provide an important opportunity to honour John Paul’s commitment to, and promotion of, choral worship at Worcester Cathedral.

Through the appeal, the cathedral hopes to raise £45,000 to support the launch of a new music funding programme for choral scholars at Worcester Cathedral. The programme of scholarships will guarantee the appointment of one scholar (alto, tenor or bass), per year, for the next six years.

The scholarships will last 12 months and begin at the start of the next academic year. They will enable life-chances for six talented, emerging young musicians that they may otherwise not find or be able to afford, creating opportunities for boys, girls, men and women, to benefit in equal measure from the truly outstanding musical education that the cathedral offers. Each scholarship will be awarded solely on ability and merit and will improve the quality of our choral music provision and benefit all who hear the choir perform.

So far, the cathedral has raised an incredible £11,438, enough to appoint the first John Paul Hoskins Appeal Scholar this September, although there is still much to do to bring in the remaining funds.
