Hola to OV Grace

The King’s Spanish and German linguists were delighted to welcome back OV Grace Burgoyne (S 13-20 and Old St Alban’s), who returned to School for a fortnight in the Modern Languages department in the summer term.

Grace is currently studying Spanish and German at university and with a year to go until she completes her degree, she is considering her future career. Grace had caught the teaching bug having previously spent a year in Spain teaching 7-18 year olds conversational English, but wanted to get a better understanding of what it entails before firming up her plans for the future. She got in touch with her former King’s Spanish teacher, Loles Ruiz-Pelaez (Hon OV), who was happy to help arrange for Grace to have a ‘teaching taster session’ back at School.

Spending time with pupils from Lower Fourth to Lower Sixth, Grace used her language skills to help pupils and support the teachers in lessons. Commenting on her experience, Grace said, “It is quite weird being back at School as a member of staff but very interesting. I hadn’t realised how much work goes on behind the scenes! It has been very useful to spend time with the pupils and I really appreciate the support I’ve received from the whole Modern Languages department, especially Loles.”

We look forward to hearing where Grace’s career takes her!
