King’s cricketers start as they mean to go on
It has been a busy start to the cricket season, with three of our teams already in action over the Easter period.
On Monday 8th April, the U15 boys’ and girls’ squads travelled to Bradfield College for a three-day festival. In less than favourable conditions, we still managed to play nine full T20 matches across both teams, something that had looked very unlikely after the wet weather we have endured this year.
The boys played some excellent cricket throughout the festival, with all five contests going down to the wire; in a high scoring game, their final match ended in a one-run defeat to Oundle School. The girls had a similar experience, with four close matches; their best performance undoubtedly came against the hosts, in which match two of our girls recorded their first half-centuries for the School.
Later that week, the First XI travelled to Bishop’s Stortford College for their annual pre-season competition. The boys certainly hit the ground running, with two strong performances in the T20 and 40-over matches, and four of the squad managed to record half-centuries over the two days.
It was great to see so much cricket taking place; the Easter trips are invaluable for completing our preparations for the season proper. We start this Saturday, with the boys playing Cheltenham College and the girls facing Shrewsbury School. We wish all teams every success throughout the term.
