King’s community spreading Christmas cheer

ATTACHMENT DETAILS OV-Sam-McCarthy-and-son-Charlie-We were delighted to see OV Sam McCarthy (Cl 99-06) and her son Charlie helping spread Christmas joy by helping light up Worcester last week.

Sam is Projects and Marketing Manager for Worcester Business Improvement District who have partnered with Worcester City Council for the Visit Worcester brand. Together, they have been working hard to ensure they could still bring Christmas magic to Worcester even if this year things have to be a little different.

Last Thursday, Visit Worcester released a virtual light switch on calling out to the community to light up Worcester and bring joy to faces young and old. Sam was involved with creating this wonderful festive film and her son Charlie, who is following in his mother footsteps at the start of his King’s journey in King’s St Alban’s Nursery, also played a key role in the switch on event by featuring within the community film.

The film, which can be watched in full here, attracted National news and was even featured on BBC 6pm news last Thursday reported by our very own OV Phil Mackie (Cl 73-84). Leading the virtual switch on was Oscar Saxelby-Lee who this year is celebrating being cancer free. The message Visit Worcester sent out that evening was: ‘Together we light up Worcester and together we can keep Worcester safe this Christmas.’

This week, Sam and the Visit Worcester team will release a second Christmas film showing the city retailers opening back up again when the lights coming back on in our wonderful city, with the messaging to keep each other safe, to be kind and to support local this Christmas. The full film will be released Saturday 5th December for Small Business Saturday celebrations.

Thank you, Sam and Charlie, for helping bring some Christmas cheer to Worcester!
