King’s Worcester Rowers Compete on Home Waters

On Saturday Rowers from King’s Worcester raced in the Worcester Head of the River races on the River Severn.

The races took part over the 6 km course from Grimley to Diglis, past our Michael Baker Boathouse. The conditions were perfect for racing, on a pleasant winter’s day, with crowds on the riverbank enjoying the spectacle.

The morning division included eight of our King’s Worcester boats racing amongst a field of sixty competitors. Our rowers performed extremely well on a course familiar to them, with an outstanding performance from our Fifth Form Boys Quad Scull of Jack D, Josh L,  Elliott B and Jude A,  who won the J16 event.

The Sixth Form Girls Eight also had a great race when they took on Monmouth Girls, finishing only a fraction of a second behind their opposition. The Sixth Form Boys took third place behind KES Stratford and RGS.

The afternoon division had nine King’s boats in a larger field and the crowds were delighted to see some fierce, side-by-side battles coming down the river. King’s won three more events and took away coveted, china tankards for their efforts.

The Fifth Form Girls 4+ of Lucy F, Ellie C, Rebecca N, Amelia V and Emily A;

Fifth Form Boys Eight of Jack D, Elliott B, James C, Ben M, Archie S, Harry W, Jude A, Tom W and Joseph Y;

Upper Remove Boys Quad Scull of Charlie M-W, Luke M, Fred M, Toby A and Pranav M

all finished with a commanding lead over their rivals.

The Senior Boys Quad Scull and Senior Girls Eight were both placed second in their senior events to Birmingham University and Worcester Rowing Club, respectively.

The rowers now look towards a short break before the West Midlands Junior Rowing Championships on Sunday 5th March.
