1st Rugby Team progress through the National Cup
In round one of the Natwest National Cup, the 1st XV Rugby Team had a unique draw against RGS Worcester.
This is the first time in 10 years that the two schools have played each other outside of their annual clash in the Modus Cup, usually held at Worcester Sixways Stadium and even longer since it has taken place at King’s Worcester playing fields.
The squad were very focused and from the first minute, you could see that they were working hard for each other. RGS Worcester had a big pack and came hard through the middle of the pitch but a fantastic defensive display from this King’s team throughout limited their chances.
On the front foot we played some excellent rugby and fully deserved our 29-5 victory. The forwards created quick ball and the backs were accurate with their passing resulting in three tries being scored in the wide channels. The standout try came from a well-worked lineout and an outside break from George T (Upper Sixth) Two controlled forward drives followed before the ball was moved back through the hands for Ollie E, Upper Sixth to finish in the corner.
We now look forward to round two of the National Cup and a game against Stowe School.
Modus Cup Update
We also look forward to the 1st XV rugby annual showcase against RGS Worcester at this year’s 15th Modus Cup Game. We are very hopeful that this will still take place on Tuesday 18th October as planned. Arrangements are currently being finalised with a new venue and more details and information on how to buy tickets will be announced in due course via social media and the school newsletters.
