OV Eric’s Walk Down Memory Lane

It was wonderful to see OV Eric Mair (75-77) this month, who returned to King’s for a visit having left in 1977 in Upper Fourth, when his family relocated back to Scotland. Eric was visiting Worcester during his travels in England having recently retired from his GP practice in Edinburgh.

Eric had enjoyed his brief time at King’s and kindly brought in some memorabilia from when he was at the school. This included some photos for the King’s School Archives, but also some personal items, including letters, which he shared with the Alumni Team’s Trish Webb.

Trish walked around the site with Eric, bringing back his memories of the Geography Block and Religious Studies. The building had been his base along with the Science Block, known by many as the Winslow Building. Eric also recalled the outdoor swimming pool, so the two visited the newly refurbished facility where Eric was impressed to see it now had walls and a roof!

Eric held fond memories of his Fourth Form Tutors and his classmates and friends, who had all given him great support during a difficult personal time for Eric, having lost a parent early in his time at King’s. Unsurprisingly, the Tuck Shop also featured heavily in Eric’s memories, along with the walk around the river to the playing fields!

You can read more about Eric and his career path in Beyond King’s on the School website here. If you would like to reconnect with Eric, you can either get in touch via the Vigornian Hub or the Alumni Office. Also, if any OVs have a copy of the 1977 U4A class photo, we would greatly appreciate a copy via email if possible – unfortunately we do not hold one in the School archives and Eric’s went missing in various house moves.
