OV Ian’s January Challenge

OV Ian Smith (Cr 73-78) is starting 2023 by tackling an incredible challenge: to complete three marathons in January for Prostate Cancer UK.

OV Ian Smith challenge 2023

Ian explains further, “I’m walking (rather than running) 78.6 miles (3 marathon distances and increased from my initial 52.4-mile target) throughout January for Prostate Cancer UK.

“I will be in the middle of 7.5 weeks of 5 days a week Radiotherapy at the time for Stage 4 Advanced Prostate Cancer. I have no idea how this will make me feel in addition to the existing fatigue and insomnia from my hormone treatment.

“I also aim to stay dry for the 7.5 weeks of my treatment.

“Prostate cancer now affects one in eight men in the UK. That’s thousands of dads, partners, brothers, grandads, uncles and mates. I’m raising money to help fund lifesaving research and support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer. I was asymptomatic, so please just get checked.”
