Many congratulations to OV Sophie Le Marchand (Cl 96-07) whose football club, Leyton Orient WFC won their first round match of the Women’s FA Cup last weekend! They played against Cheltenham Town Ladies Football Club last Sunday after the original match day was postponed due to flooding.
Sophie says, “Sunday’s match was a historic moment for my club Leyton Orient WFC because this is the first time that we have ever made it into the second round of the FA Cup! In extremely difficult conditions after all of the flooding, we battled through the mud to beat an excellent Cheltenham Town side 1-0!
In the next round we will be travelling to Portsmouth Ladies, who play in the division above us, so we will be expecting a very difficult test. However, the prospect of potentially drawing a WSL (Women’s Super League) side in the third round, should we make it through, is mouth-watering!”
Sophie was delighted that her parents, Sarah and Stephan Le Marchand (Hon OVs) were there to enjoy her victory.
