OV’s Digital Donation
Earlier this month, it was great to see OV Steve Perera (Cr 86-93) back on the familiar turf of the King’s First Team Rugby pitch at Slingpool Walk, having been a strong member of the 1st XV himself while at school. Steve was there with King’s Foundation Director of Sport, Jonny Mason (Hon OV), to unveil formally the splendid permanent digital scoreboard that Steve’s business has generously donated.
Steve explains what inspired his decision for this donation:
“Having attended King’s on an Assisted Place back in the late 80s and early 90s, I was delighted to achieve my ambition of being able to send all of my children there. It takes quite a bit of sacrifice, but I truly believe that it is worth it.
“In addition, my wife currently works there and I have had many parents, ex-pupils and even past teachers as clients of my financial planning business, Britannic Place Financial Management Ltd. Having been part of a single-parent family and having lived on a Housing Association estate whilst growing up, that, for me, is true social mobility. That is why it is extremely satisfying to be able to give something back to the school that gave me so many life experiences and where I met so many of my life-long friends. I have been lucky enough to have been able to do this on a number of occasions, from sponsoring the Rugby Sevens team between 2009 and 2011 through to sponsoring the King’s Hawford Hockey team, and now to donating a new and really impressive scoreboard up at the fields.
“I hope that many current and future pupils continue to experience the wide range of activities that King’s offers and make their own life-long friends along the way.”
The School is very grateful to Steve for his thoughtful, useful, and generous donation.
