OV’s Olivier Award
A massive congratulations to OV Allan Clayton MBE (H 91-99) for winning a well-deserved Olivier Award!
The award, Outstanding Achievement in Opera, had a strong field, where Allan was up against finalists Aigul Akhemetshina for her performance in Carmen at the Royal Opera House, and Jung Young-Doo for his direction of Lear at the Barbican Theatre
You can watch the moment Allan, represented by Mark Anthony Turnage, received his award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for Festen, presented by world-renowned Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, on YouTube below.
Many OVs will remember Allan’s most recent visit to King’s as our Barnabas Speaker in 2018, when he not only spoke to all pupils in his Barnabas Address, but also gave a masterclass to some King’s singers, met with King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford pupils, spent some time with Choristers, and rounded the day off with a stunning repertoire in College Hall.
King’s Director of Music, Simon Taranczuk (Hon OV), added, “We are delighted to hear of Allan’s Olivier Award which follows on from his MBE in 2021. If there was to be a reprise of the famous three tenors concerts from the 90s then Allan will most likely be one of those involved! With this award, Allan continues to be a huge inspiration for current King’s musicians and performers.”
