OV’s Serene Approach for AGA
Congratulations to OV Henrietta Styles (K 12-19 and Old St Alban’s), whose stunning print design won a competition being run by AGA and is now the brand’s featured textile collection, called Serenity.
Having gained her A-levels in Art and Design, Business Studies, and Geography at King’s, Henrietta went to Nottingham Trent University to read Textile Design. It was during her third year at university that the opportunity arose.
Henrietta explains further:
“Creating my own textile print collection with such an inspiring, likeminded brand as AGA has been a dream come true.
“The Serenity Collection was inspired by a desire to connect nature and well-being, bringing the outdoors inside. This was explored through design development, where I researched into the Biophilia trend, which emphasised the importance of harnessing this in the home. My calming print design was therefore inspired by my own photography, which I hand-painted to capture the true essence of nature.
“This amazing opportunity came in my third year studying textile design at Nottingham Trent University. I chose to enter the design competition with AGA, where I presented my initial concept and research to the AGA Cookshop’s Commercial Manager. This was the beginning phase, which I then developed upon into the final entry, including a design proposal detailing everything from my initial concept through to the final print design with product visualisations.
“Through my time at university, sustainability was always the most important factor to me, and was considered at every stage. This translated wonderfully into working with the AGA brand, known for their thoughtful and responsible design stance. Due to discovering an important link between sustainability, the importance of well-being, and nature’s impact, it was deep rooted behind each design decision from start to finish.
“This was successfully executed through the use of 100% cotton panama, recycled cotton terry with added layers of recycled polyester, and biodegradable packaging bags. Finally echoed in my collection name “Serenity“, I represent the importance of nature that allows a calm home environment to be created, through the resulting AGA textiles.
“I am so grateful that I was chosen as a winner, as my print design now features across a range of AGA textiles in my very own ‘Serenity Collection, which is available online and in stores.”
