Rising Stars: Split Second Band Hits all the Right Notes on its Path to Success

Talented King’s musicians Jack B (U6) and Ava H (FF) are enjoying incredible success with their band, Split Second, which is due to release its next track on 21st February.

Founded six years ago by drummer Jack, Ava joined last year as the lead singer, alongside bassist and guitarist, pupils from Bromsgrove School.

Their latest track, ‘Alone,’ set for release on 21st February, explores the loneliness of a breakup with a fast and rocky edge. Later this year, they will release an album chronicling the emotional journey of a relationship.

The band’s commitment to their music is incredible. Meeting three to four times a week for intensive three-hour sessions, they balance rehearsals, social media content creation and strategic planning, alongside their GCSE and A Level studies. Ava takes the lead on video editing, while Jack handles much of the planning. They are supported by family, friends and mentors from Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA), with Jack’s dad also playing an active role in their journey, helping to guide their growing success.

Last year, the band had an incredible year, with their track, Love Life Cycle, being played on ITV’s This Morning. The band also were named twice as Artist of The Month on BBC Radio, with their tracks being played across 54 radio stations in 32 countries. You may have also spotted them in print, as they have appeared in Clash Magazine, Earmilk, Fame and about eight further music publications. Alongside radio interviews, releasing another track (Addicted To Love), and taking part in a new BBC Sounds product development, the group also begun conversations with Warner Records. For the first time the band have been picked up and monitored by Radio 6 and Radio 1.

Their dedication to the band’s success has paid off, with a massive online following; 325,000 followers on TikTok and over 16,000 on Instagram. One of their TikTok videos from last year went viral, amassing an incredible 20 million views – a post they almost didn’t share!

Split Second plays gigs almost every weekend, and in March, the band will take the stage in London. They also hope to perform at several festivals over the summer.

Ava said: “I’d love to reach a level of fame where I can’t leave the house without being recognised! This already happens in Worcester, because of our huge social following.”

Jack is similarly focused on their future, saying: “We would love Split Second to be offered a record deal one day, but only if it’s the right fit for us.”

Congratulations to Jack and Ava on their fantastic success so far; the King’s community will be watching your progress closely.
