Rugby win for OV Captain

We were thrilled to be sent this super photo of OV Matt Humphreys (Ch 00-07) holding the trophy after his team won the Singaporean Ruby Cup Final! Matt, who captains the Singapore Wanderers says,

“We were extremely pleased to win the Singapore Premiership this season, going unbeaten throughout the whole season, culminating in the Grand Final at Queenstown Stadium, beating Bucks RFC 35-10. I also happened to score a try in the victory, whilst captaining the team this season as well.

My attention now shifts to the Singapore National team where we have fixtures against Malaysia, Thailand, and Hong Kong 'A', before our Asian Championships in June against Taiwan and Philippines.”

Fantastic news Matt!

Singing the praises of music

We feel very inspired this week as we discovered a wonderful interview given by OV Stephen Cleobury (Ch 58-67) CBE all about Stephen’s career and the wonderful impact singing can have for health, well-being and development.

Stephen will be retiring from his job as Director of Music at King’s College, Cambridge later this year, but from the sounds of it Stephen is not going to be idle and we will still be hearing more of his brilliant work in the future!

OV Professions group-Marketing & Communications

Thursday this week saw the first of our gatherings for OVs working in Marketing & Communications, meeting up for informal drinks at the Hoxton Hotel, Holborn. David Atkinson (W 79-86), managing director of SPACE marketing agency had initiated this event and kindly sponsored the initial drinks.

The 1986 OVs were out in full force and really enjoyed catching up with each other, both on a personal as well as professional level. It was lovely to see such a wonderful group of OVs, representing many years and finding much in common despite working across a wide range of industries, but in very similar marketing and communications roles. Liz Elliott, Development Director from King’s really enjoyed meeting all the OVs and hearing about their journeys after leaving school and we very much look forward to hosting another such event later in the year.

Other Professions Groups that are currently forming are: Audit, Tax, Advisory & Consultancy and Law. If you are interested in joining the Marketing & Communications group, or indeed either of our other professions groups, please let us know at alumni@ksw.org.uk.  The OVs who joined us on Thursday evening were: Leo Addis (Ch 81-86), David Atkinson (W 79-86), Lizzie Baxter (S 03-10), Ed Brew (Br 01-08), James Byrne (W 91-02), Derek Evans (Cr 78-86), Chris Goodreds (Os 00-07), Vanessa Gott (Cl 06-13), Dan Harknett (Br 06-11), Vicky Longster (Br 08-14), Andrew Nunney (K 78-85), Amanda Stacey (Co 84-86).

OV Runner in the Big Apple

OV Alice Wright (S 06-13) is taking New York by storm and did an incredible job at the United Airlines New York City Half Marathon placing 14th in the difficult 13.1-mile course through Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Alice completed the marathon in a strong time of 1:14:25 and commented on twitter, “I don’t think it was too bad a day at the office… if nothing else, it was a great experience on a tough course!”

We love Alice’s amazing attitude and look forward to seeing her compete in her next half-marathon.
