Sixth Form Charity Day Raises Funds and Awareness for Safe Space

Today marked the Sixth Form Charity Committee’s first event of the year – a fantastic awareness and fundraising day in support of the ‘Safe Space’ project in Worcester.

The day was one of several events taking place with Safe Space, as part of their ongoing partnership with King’s Worcester.

To show their support for the organisation, our Sixth Form students took part in a non-uniform day wearing a hint of purple, while the Charity Committee organised a whole-school cake sale at morning break, raising funds for the project.

Earlier this week, the Safe Space team visited King’s to deliver an insightful assembly to the Sixth Form, bringing their van on-site to further raise awareness of the vital service they provide.

In September, the Upper Sixth boys explored the Worcester BID Safe Space Van in a PSHE lesson, having engaging conversations with the team and gaining insight into how the service supports vulnerable individuals and relieves pressure on emergency services.

The Safe Space project supports individuals in Worcester’s night-time economy, offering non-emergency care, first aid, support, advice and a safe place to talk. It operates every Friday and Saturday night from 10pm to 4am, and during other busy periods like Bank Holidays and major city events. Since its launch in December 2023, the service has already helped reduce strain on local A&E departments, preventing the need for 137 ambulances within its first year.

Sam McCarthy, Chief Executive, Worcester BID, said: “We’re thrilled to establish a partnership between The King’s School Worcester and Worcester Safe Space to support the safety and well-being of young people in our city.”

“The work being done through this collaboration is vital in making our community safer and more inclusive. The efforts of the Safer City team to engage with sixth-form students directly is an important step in ensuring they feel supported and protected, every day of the week. Together, we are not only providing a safe space, but also empowering young people with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate their environment with confidence and security.”

A huge well done to our Sixth Form Charity Committee for organising such a meaningful and impactful day and thank you to the Safe Space team for visiting and helping to raise awareness.
