Sixth Formers delight in New Café 1541
King’s Sixth Formers are celebrating this week the opening of Café 1541, a new café within our enhanced Sixth Form Centre, located at the heart of the school campus in the iconic Victorian edifice of School House.
The café is open throughout the school day, serving barista-style coffee, hot drinks, smoothies, frappes, milkshakes, and a variety of hot and cold snack food.
Café 1541, which beautifully combines historic Victorian features with modern furnishings and bright wall graphics, offers wonderful opportunities to relax and recharge, with large windows looking out onto the school site and the Cathedral.
This is a great addition to our Sixth Form facilities. It provides an environment for students to rest, work and socialise outside of the classroom, similar to the spaces which students will find at university or places of work. I’m delighted to see it so well used in its first weeks.
Students are already reaping the benefits of this facility and sharing their views. Sixth Formers commented, “It’s great now to have such a cool café onsite,” and “The oat milk lattes are amazing!”
The new Sixth Form café is just one of a series of redevelopments which have taken place over the summer, including a new careers suite, with enhanced interview spaces; an extended individual study space, with booths for quiet study; and new Sixth Form washrooms and changing facilities. Alongside this, School House has been upgraded to support our sustainability goals, with new energy-efficient triple glazing and LED lighting being installed throughout, along with waterless urinals, and carbon neutral carpets. As we approach the Spring and the warmer weather, Café 1541 will also feature outdoor café-style furniture, kindly provided by our Parents Association.
