Sports Leadership Students Welcome Local Primary Pupils to King’s

Lower Sixth students enjoyed the spring sunshine at Slingpool Walk, as they spent the day coaching children from local primary schools as part of their Sports Leadership Award.

The students, who have spent the year developing their knowledge of coaching and leading sports sessions, welcomed over 150 primary pupils from Year 4 and Year 5 where they delivered a series of specialist coaching sessions.

In the morning, cricket skills were on the agenda as the children were taught batting and bowling techniques in a series of fun games and activities.

After lunch, a new group of primary pupils made their way to King’s for a fantastic afternoon of athletics. They particularly enjoyed the relay races!

The Sports Leaders showed great confidence and patience with the younger children, and following the sessions, Teacher of PE, Miss Sanders, complemented them on how hard they have worked on their coaching techniques during the year. She added the progress they had made throughout the course was impressive.

The Sports Leaders UK Level 3 Award in Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that can add up to 16 UCAS points to a university application. It forms part of King’s extensive Electives Programme, which also includes the Gold Arts Award and a range of digital skills courses.

The Sports Leadership course helps develop coaching and leadership skills, offering students the opportunity to plan and deliver sessions for specialist community groups and schools. It helps grow confidence and the ability to communicate effectively with other people and peers.
