Stateside OV Hockey!

It is always wonderful to see an OV vs OV match, but even more special when both OVs are overseas! OVs Immie Gillgrass (W 13-20 and Old Hawfordian) and Milly Short (W 14-21 and Old Hawfordian) are both currently in the US, studying at university on Hockey Scholarships at Wake Forest and Iowa respectively, and we were delighted to hear about their University Hockey Teams meeting up in a tournament.

Immie kindly sent us a match report:

“Iowa made their way down to North Carolina for the Big10 x ACC tournament at the end of August, the opening games of the 2023 season. All four teams, the Universities of Michigan, Iowa, North Carolina and Wake Forest are among the best hockey universities in America, all being ranked in the Top 12, with Iowa ranked Number One in the most recent weekly rankings ( as of September 5th). Iowa played Wake in a close matchup, with Iowa going into the second half with a 1-0 lead after finding the back of the net from a fast breakaway. Wake maintained good pressure, but Iowa had a couple of great attacking plays, which they converted to scores towards the end of the game. This resulted in a 4-0 win, a scoreline that didn’t reflect the closeness of the game or Wake Forest’s play. It’s always great to see and play against Milly, having grown up together playing King’s and club hockey and being great friends. It was also lovely to see her whole family out in the states!”
