Ten Year Reunion for the Year of 2016
On Saturday 28 February, it was a real pleasure to welcome the Year of 2016 back to King’s for their Ten Year Reunion – and what a fantastic evening it was.
The afternoon began with tours of School, hosted by current U6 Prefects, sparking plenty of memories as the OVs visited familiar corners of King’s, remembering how it was ‘in their day’.
The main celebration took place in the Mulberry Marquee, located centrally on the school site between the Chappel Memorial Room and School House. There, the Year of 2016 cohort was joined by some of their former House Tutors and teachers including Hon OVs Richard Chapman, Richard Cook, Simon Cuthbertson, Rev Dr Mark Dorsett, Diana Drew, Chris Haywood, Gilly, Dr Richard James, Russ Mason, Claire Neville, Ian Robinson, Donna Salkeld and Chris Wilson (who was particularly delighted that his whole Kittermaster tutor group was there, bar one!). After a few ‘ice-breaker’ drinks, they were all formally welcomed back to school by the new Head of Foundation, Ben Charles. Throughout the evening, the marquee buzzed with conversation as friends reunited, life updates shared, and so much laughter.
With photographs from their school years on display around the marquee, conversations frequently turned to shared experiences, favourite moments, and the enduring friendships formed during their time at School. The strength of these connections between the OVs and their former teachers was clear, with all of them keen to keep the reunion going – eventually, the King’s Head was settled on, as the only place locally likely to have sufficient space to fit them all!
The Ten Year Reunion for the Year of 2016 was a fitting celebration of a significant milestone, and a wonderful reminder of the lasting bonds that connect OVs to one another and to King’s. We very much look forward to seeing many of them again at future OV events.
