OV Graduations 2023
Congratulations to all OVs who have successfully completed their degree, their apprenticeship, or indeed any significant achievement over the course of this year! Please keep in touch, as we love to celebrate and share your news.
We were thrilled to hear from the following OVs with their graduation stories:
Charlotte Wright (Os 16-18)
“I graduated in July with an Upper Second-Class Honours degree in Politics and Spanish from Cardiff University. I have decided to stay for another year and I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Broadcast Journalism. I am very excited to start my career as a journalist, especially after having my first national television appearance in early October.”
Philippa Wills (Cl 13-20)
“In June I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First Class degree in English. I was overjoyed with my result; I achieved my highest grade in my favourite module, Medieval Literature. I also hugely enjoyed writing my two Dissertations: Fruit Imagery in Victorian Poetry and A Rereading of Tristram Section in Malory’s Morte D’Arthur. Alongside my studies I founded the St John’s Poetry Society, and played as a (lethal!) left-back for the women’s Football team. I am now working in London as a professional researcher for an historical fiction novel on the Earl of Bothwell, third husband to Mary Queen of Scots. I look back fondly on my experience at Cambridge, which was challenging and hugely rewarding; I am so grateful to all my teachers at King’s who inspired, encouraged and – where necessary – pushed me to achieve my full potential. It was a joy to discover what I could achieve when I confidently set my mind to it.”
Archie Jury (K 12-19)
“I recently graduated from Durham University after three amazing years studying Music. At uni I was heavily involved in college life at Castle College, and was a keen rower. On graduating, I was honoured to receive both College Colours and the Eve Myra Kisch Prize in Music.
“In my second year I launched a promotion and events company, Damp Squib Promotions, and am now working to grow the business nationwide. In February I will be travelling to Florence for six months, where I will be working with Mascarade Opera to develop their emerging artist programme and organise events in the run-up to their ‘Festivalino’ in Venice. I am really excited by this opportunity!”
Ellie Deehan (W 13-20)
“Earlier this year I was delighted to graduate from the University of Exeter with a BA Honours degree in Geography. This was a wonderful end to my time at Exeter, which had been thoroughly enjoyable, and included an exciting course which involved a fieldwork trip to Seville and a dissertation that allowed me to return to King’s Hawford to explore the work that had been doing to become more sustainable. However, I must say that the best thing I have gained from university has to be the incredible life-long friendships.
“The King’s community has always provided me with so much support as well as many countless opportunities for which I will always be so grateful; this is why I was so excited to be able to return to the School this September in the role of Lower Years’ Assistant. This role has already provided me with so many experiences that I know will be invaluable, as I hope to pursue a career in teaching.”
Sophie Mitchell (S 13-20)
“After a wonderful three years at the University of Exeter, I was thrilled to graduate with a First Class BA Honours degree in English. Throughout my degree, I volunteered at the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum and spent my free time watching my friends take part in sport fixtures or heading to the beach. I am excited to return to King’s this year as the Graduate Drama Assistant; drama played a huge part in my time at school and helped shape me into a more creative and confident individual. Next year, I am hoping to continue pursuing the arts with a Masters Degree in Film Studies.”
