U16 Girls Crowned National Hockey Champions

King’s is celebrating after the under 16 Girls’ Hockey team were crowned National Trophy Champions following a superb victory in the national final at the iconic Lee Valley Hockey Centre in London.

The team has been undefeated all season, with their cup journey seeing them win all six games, scoring an incredible 32 goals and conceding just five.

In a tight, physical and fiercely contested match, the girls produced an outstanding performance to defeat The Leys School 4–1 in front of a large crowd of friends and family.

King’s dominated the start of the match, winning an early short corner and testing the opposition goalkeeper on multiple occasions. Amelia M opened the scoring for King’s in the first quarter, slotting the ball in at the far post to finish off a slick passing move.

King’s continued to dictate play with their passing game, intercepting the ball from any attacks from The Leys. Amelia scored her second of the game in the middle of the third quarter with a rocket strike following the first save from the goalkeeper in a short corner.  Shortly after, The Leys responded with a goal of their own, giving them a renewed sense of momentum and a period of pressure. However, the King’s girls were strong in defence and prevented any further goal scoring opportunities.

Halfway through the final quarter, Amelia completed her hattrick, with a calmly slotted 1v1 against the goalkeeper after a super aerial put her through on goal. With only fifty seconds of the game remaining, Hermione P scored the final goal deflecting home a well worked penalty corner routine to secure the win for a jubilant King’s team.

Lora Miller-Symonds, Director of Sport and Hockey at King’s, commented: “The girls have worked incredibly hard all season and have been an absolute pleasure to coach. Their fantastic work rate, commitment, and desire to achieve have shone through in every performance.”

“To go unbeaten throughout the season is a remarkable testament to their efforts and the depth of talent across the squad. I’m immensely proud of this team – their victory in the National Trophy Final is thoroughly deserved.”

Following the victory, the team enjoyed cookies at school with Head of Foundation, Ben Charles, who said: “To play, and win, a national final on such an iconic stage is a remarkable achievement and a true testament to the team’s skill, resilience and teamwork. The girls represented the school superbly, not only in their performance but also in their conduct throughout the day. Commiserations to The Leys girls who performed exceptionally well on the day, making it a highly competitive game to watch.”

Huge congratulations to all the players involved, and sincere thanks to the coaching and support staff who have guided and supported the King’s team on this journey.
